NaNoWriMo 2010 - The Reckoning

Figures that November would end up being the busiest month I've had in a long time. Between hanging out with out-of-town friends, trying to keep up with housework, spending what little time I can with my husband, having to do laundry, having to get my refrigerator replaced and take EVERYTHING out of it...

Well, I haven't had time to write in almost a week now, so my wordcount is still a measly 3000 words. The rest of the month isn't looking any slower, so I think I'm going to just give up.

This makes me mad actually because I was really looking forward to trying hard and getting a bunch of writing done, and I usually NEVER have anything to do. But apparently it wasn't meant to be. :\

I finally hit 10K last night so I'm playing catch up a little, but I'm feeling confidant since the later sections of the story are more action oriented, and that tends to inflate my word counts dramatically.

I would say don't give up. Even if you don't make it for the month, don't give up. Take the time to write even a little bit per day, 300-500 words, just a paragraph or so a day (If that seems big, then perhaps I just have a blown up view on what a paragraph looks like XD) and slowly but surely, your story will come to life. Some days are noteably busy than others, but even just getting something down on the page in a day still counts. :D 3,000 words is a start! Keep at it, you can do it if you set yourself to do it! :jump:

22,205 today. I probably won't have time to write anything until later tonight, but I'm almost half-way there!

Last two days I missed writing...I have some major catching up to do this weekend, not to mention all the homework to do as well.

I missed a lot of writing too, so I'm just barely ahead of where it's suggested everyone should be. I'm gonna try to make up for it this weekend in the midst of writing a review for the newspaper and finishing a play.

I've been beating "week two" pretty well until today. It's not that late but I still have to write today's quota and I'm really not focusing. For far though I am pretty impressed with myself,, if I may say so myself. :)

I've got a good question. I've got the word count inside of my Word document, but when I look at the document properties, it shows a drastically different word count. (Currently by like...7,000 or so words?) o.o; Which one is the "correct" one?

I know the only technical non-words counted as words are my chapter divisions which I mark as " ~*~ " (minus quotations) but in the end, that only amounts to 33 or so 'words' that I would subtract from my word count. Why are my two word counts so drastically different? I'm so confused! @___@;;

Could it be the total "character" count? Like, commas, periods, spaces, etc.

Nope, because total character count is skyrocketed into the 200,000 range, and without spaces it's down about 40,000. (I have that many spaces? Holy crow! O__O!) Character count inside of the document properties is a mix between the with and without spacing, so I have absolutely no idea. u.u;

EDIT: The crap?! My word count for the properties of the document has now surpassed that within the document by about 400 words. Weird. o.o; /still highly confused

My previous entry is incorrect. I decided that I refuse to be week two'd, buckled down and wrote my bit for the day.

1 hour long "challenges" work, where I time myself and see how much I can write in one hour, work really well for me.

As much as I hate to admit this, I'm throwing in the towel on this one.

Had a false start with a novel I realized I didn't want to write after 5,000 something words, made up the difference with a new novel I enjoyed more only to come down with the worst cold I have had in years. My productivity is completely shot.

I wish everyone else the best of luck. If my condition improves before November ends, I might make a mad dash for the finish line, but honestly I think I'm done.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO~!
I just finished the 50,000 goal! :forehead: I'm going to do some homework and then finish the storyline in a bit. :thumb: I am SO excited and pumped and energized right now! I ran around the floor giving my floormates hugs and high fives and everyone (that was here anyways) was cheering me on and were celebrating with me for getting the goal down in fifteen days. I feel so awesome right now! Feeling like a champion and rockin' it! :grin:

EDIT: Just concluded and wrapped up my novel at 54,415 words. :dizzy:

Annnd, I win! NanNo says I have 50,017, but my word processor says 50,041. If I add the chapters I wrote over the summer (which I won't, officially) then I have 53,678. Part 1/book 1 of this story is finished and those 83 prompt challenge things I was doing over the summer on DA are also finished. I'll be getting that Scrivener discount when it comes out on the 2nd.

Now to slowly settle back into real life. I have to write one paper, research for another paper, and edit a play. Woo~

I really wanted to participate this year, BUT FORGOT!! Oh well, for practice, I plan to challenge myself in December to do this challenge as a personal thing.

I won yesterday! I am pretty chuffed with myself. XD

I will probably use the rest of the month to just add a little more because leaving it cold where it is now makes for a really terrible ending. I also realised at about 35k that my story wasn't going to "finish" and will therefore either be the first of a series or, since 50k isn't actually that much, I'll just write the rest on at some point. I will do NaNoWriMo again next year so maybe I'll carry on then. :)

Good luck to anyone still writing for the last few days!
