Hey Nami, it is not crappy at all. You get extra points for history characteriseing. Love the text in the middle and the image is not bad either. A fine entery :thumb:

Hehe, well practice will get you better. If you want a dynamical picture then veiwpoint, graphics and movements plays a part, but you are well on your way considering the subject and historical section ^^

Oh, and your entery keeps hope for the thread, so thank you ^^

i hope you like it.......

story: Princess Brianna was in charge of her fathers castle while the king went away. She was honored to be the one her father trusted his beautiful castle with. Everything went well, until that cold winter night. The castle was attacked. Brianna didn't even get to know who her attackers were. It was complete chaos everywhere! Her army tried to defend the castle, but the enemy was too strong. Princess Brianna had no choice but to abandon her fathers castle. As she fled into the night she glanced back and a tear slipped down her pale cheek. She saw the beautiful castle in flames. Oh, how she wished she could've done more to save it.

personality:
age: 19
character: gentle and kind
description: brown/red hair, emerald eyes, fair skin

history: Princess Brianna comes from a story I wrote a while back. She's not the main character, but she is one of my favorites! ^_^

It doesn't appear to have bled too badly. I really like the 'movement' in Brianna's pose. It's a good entry!

Ahh. I haven't been able to comment on the entries yet. So here goes:

USSRGirl: Nice lineart! Nice sense of motion with the flags/leaves/hair all blowing in the wind. And I like the character history, very thorough.

Esoteric: Gorgeous. I love the watercolor texture of the colors, and all the little details are fantastic. Great job.

Orenji: Very cute drawing. I love Halbarad's costume, great detailing on it.

Nami: Nice side profile of the character. And good job on the castle. I really like Ardere's sword hilt, the herringbone pattern is nice.

fairyprincess90: Very nice character design. Good layout of the drawing. Even if it did bleed a little, I like the texture of the sky; watercolors can be tough to force to cooperate.

----

I think that's everyone so far. Hope to see more entries... *prods other entrants* I've got my character's design done, and history done, I just need to do the actual image, I should hopefully be done this weekend... if homework doesn't interfere too much.

Name: Lady Claria McInnes of the clan McInnes (14th century)

Personality: Firey. Strong leadership ability, shrewd calculator, but full of emotion.

Age: 24

Biography:
One evening, while riding patrol along the borders of his land, Lord Ian McInnes and his men came upon a woman who had been washed up on the shore of a nearby river. She was battered beyond recognition from her violent ride down the river. Lord McInnes brought her back to his castle to nurse her wounds, where it was then discovered that she was with child. The clan cared for her through her remaining months, but her health was so frail that she died giving birth to a red-haired girl. Having no children of his own, Lord McInnes adopted the girl as his heir, naming her Claria.

Claria was raised amidst the love of her clan, and trained in the art of battle by her father. Relations with England were troubled, and Scotland needed strong leaders. At 13, Claria was sent off to live with friends in France to be instructed in manners of the court, as well as to learn classical education. Years later, upon returning to Scotland, Claria began leading the clan with her father. Lord Ian, during a trip to better relations with England, was falsely accused of crimes, and executed. Now sole leader of the clan, Claria vowed revenge for her father's death.

Utilizing connections made while in France, Claria was introduced to the English court as Clara Happer, having dyed her hair black as a disguise. There she spied upon the English government and sought out her father's accusers. Her beauty attracted the attention of many young nobles, but Claria scorned them all. One spoiled young lord, deeply insulted by Claria's rejection, sought to embarrass her before the court by uncovering her secrets. When it was discovered that she was a spy, Claria fled the court, the army on her heels.

She arrived home barely in time to rally the clan in defense. The contents of the castle were emptied and fuel was set inside. Claria and the clan hid in the gorge surrounding the castle, in wait for the English. As the English army readied their attack against the castle during the night, it suddenly exploded in flames. The clan leapt from their hiding spot in the ensuing chaos, Claria in the lead.

Excuse historical inaccuracies in the biography. It's for fun. ^^ And I apologize for the length, I was having a little too much fun writing it. And now I really want to draw more of her, especially in disguise... *sigh* If I only had the time, my poor manga is not getting worked on as it should.

I'm about to colour mine. How do you get the clean lineart? I have a graphics tablet and the line appears wobbly at times.

Very impressive Soul Art, Esoteric and Orenji! Round of applause to all!

Thanks. I had a lot of fun with this drawing.

--

I use the pencil tool, I prefer it since it works better for my coloring method. I set the round brush at 20, at the hardest setting, with line variation and smoothing turned on (under brush options). I know quite a few people who use the pen tool, which produces lovely, smooth lines when used correctly.

It took me a few months to get used to using the tablet and produce smooth lines. Heck, they're still wobbly, I just Ctrl+Z and redo a line until I get it right, lol. I also work on my files at 600 dpi. Huge, yes. But when I downsize it for putting online, the line art looks a lot smoother than if I had done it at a smaller dpi.

Name: Florbalt (Right-hand man to Emperor D'hur)

Personality: Lonely, angry, master swordsman, intelligent but a bit of a psycho.

Age: 44

Biography: Widowed at 22 years of age while slaving away in the Moorestone Mines, Florbalt was taken into D'hur's care to be 'silenced.' Soon the Emperor took a liking to the young man and some years later appointed him as his right-hand man. Unfortunately for Florbalt this meant he was still largely ignored and beaten often but he wasn't dead. He slaved for his master for many years and the anger inside him grew so great. He planned to assasinate his Emperor in the Great Hall...

Here Florbalt is seen protecting D'hur Citadel from the Cursed Ones. He fights with giant tent pegs (uses them to parry in a swordfight and rip the weapon from the enemy's hand etc). His armour is not the usual sort. He has experimented with a nest of giant hard shelled spiders and now uses them as a breast plate and shoulder armour. Their shells resist but the hardest slash. (I thought up the idea after reading Hangman's Curse by Frank Peretti).
