CAA's New Look

Postby USSRGirl » Tue Jul 31, 2007 5:14 pm

>___O Look, I understand this will prevent the server from going down and all and help load time run quicker - but I strongly dislike the new look. I liked the smilies and username info on the bottom/side bar so it wouldn't stretch my screen out. And also, no more quick replies to PMs?

-___-;; *unhappy commie*

EDIT: And why do I have a mysterious green beacon next to my username?!

I dunno; I like it. I think it's different, but functional and pretty smart-looking. :)

So...

You strongly dislike the new look, or you like the old look? It's kinda tough to tell from what you said. We're soliciting input for modifications to the new look here, btw.

We're still working some bugs out, so some of the things you don't like will be addressed. Please do report any bugs you find so that Mith can work on them... but please be patient too, as there is only one Mith. :)

It appears that the mysterious green beacon does indeed indicate that you are online.

The green light does have rough edges on it and maybe user names should be above avatars...

Yup, the green thing means you're online. lol
Anyways, I think this looks more standard and conventional.
I liked seeing random pictures and checkin' 'em out....
But if the site's going down because of the old look, I'd be more than greatful for this. :P

Well, if it is okay to put suggestions here....

Other than the "Icon16" not having an icon, most of my suggestions have to do with the new "New CAA" skin.

1. The background in a quote area is a little too light with the white text.

2. The icon art has a white border which stands out unpleasantly on the dark background. It does not blend well, I suppose.

3. Usernames in this new skin all have underlines. It would be nice if they were not there like in the CAA lite skin.

4. I notice that some sigs have scroll bars in the "New CAA" skin while the same ones do not have scroll bars in the CAA lite skin. Maybe it is the larger font in the "New CAA" skin?

Actually, I really like the look of the new "New CAA" skin, but right now the CAA lite skin still seems... "easier" on my eyes for now.

Keep up the great work!

Oh, I notice the Donate link. How does one donate to CAA?

Well, if the horizontal look of the profiles in CAA is going to be changed, then other wise I have no complaints.

Although I do notice the gender icon is missing. Not to be rude, but I would like that back please.

P.S. Keep up the good work Mith!

I don't like how the text in our posts is all on the left side of the page. Do you think it can be centered? Can't vouch for everyone, but it'd make it a lot easier for me to read. Thanks!

hey, i just noticed this when i tried to go into the caa chat, it may be just some kind of conflict on my end, but i'm not seeing any of the actually chatting that is taking place in the chat, the areas where the text is displayed are dark, which i'm figuring is by design, however the only text that is showing up is the "Welcome to the CAA Chat. Please remember to abide by all the normal CAA rules." and the listing of all the users in the chat

i am using firefox and it is the new skin, i don't know if it's something that anyone else has encountered yet, but i thought i'd point it out

Very good points! Yes, we are aware of the overall buttons having oddities. We're going to be refining the look over the next month or so. Very little I have seen so far has been "over the top" or anything. I think we can make a lot of progress in a very little amount of time. Give me a week or two to recoup from this one, though. While the actual cut over only took about 10 hours, the prep time refining all the oddities was 40+, for a total of 50 hours over the last few weeks. I'm supposed to be on vacation from programming, so I think I'll be a little less likely to fix stuff for the next few weeks.

Oh, and the donate link works with Paypal. It's basically only there because so many people asked for it (really!)

Can you be more specific? How about a screen capture? That might help me see what you mean. The main text seems to display more or less the same way it did on the other skins.

YK: I don't know what you are refering to... Everyone else seems to be able to able to use it OK.

The only thing that bothers me is the dark background... I'm used to CAA being light-colored, and now my eyes are going 'gah!' But I'm sure I'll get used to it

First off for the most part I really love the new look ^_^ I know there are bugs that need to be worked out, but hey, this IS Mith we are talking about! ^_^ HE can fix anything technological! :3

I have a couple of requests... most of them pertaining to the gallery...

I noticed that the gallery previews are only four instead of five, (I believe there were five before?) is there a way that we can get those back to five?

Also you say "random images" are they really random? I noticed they were all posted on July 31 (as of this post) and they never change...

And the older pictures that we have to search for, would it be a problem to change them back to thumbnails again? Like if we clicked on Original art, we would see thumbnails of the pics? If not that's okay.. I understand! ^_^

Keep up the good work, Mith and fellow Admins and Mods!

What do we need Mith for when we have CK!

I also have Shao's problem with the reply page, if that helps at all.

One minor complaint: some buttons look inadequately 'cut out' to suit the background colour.

Here's another question...

I have the main page saved in favorites, and sometimes when I come back to it it has the dark skin turned on instead, and my saved username/password will go away and I have to type it again again, 'remember me' again, and THEN it goes back to the lite skin... Only happens sometimes though :/

Do you think it might just be your browser? I use Firefox which remembers my user names and passwords to all the subscription pages I go too. While IE (which I never use) sometimes forgets.

I'm pretty sure that's simply because there are only five images uploaded. Since it only shows five images at a time, it will just show those same five until more are uploaded.

A bit of both really. I guess the new look will just take some getting used to. I'm having trouble navigating.

Most of my gripes were the same as Omega's and what I said briefly in my first post. Mainly: I don't like the horizontal sidebars with the username info and smilies that make my windows stretch to eye-throbbing lengths (this might just be a problem with my computer though), the gender symbols are gone making it even more difficult to tell what gender someone is, and the quick reply feature is off the PMs.

On the plus side I like new buttons and background. It's more stylish htmlyness than the old, basic CAA. Also I didn't know you weren't done updating. Just being a nitpicking webgeek.
