According to Shakespeare in Love, when Juliet was "killed" on stage, "she" (I'm using quotes because only men could be in plays in those days) just had a red silk ribbon next to her breast and just pulled it out in order to simulate the blood.

Hmmm... my teacher DID say once that she went to one play and it was a gorry version of King Lear :/ They actually used "guts" and stuff on stage :/


...aaaand back on topic. Shawshank Redemption (didn't know it was Stephen King either until later on :/)
