Iron Chef: The Official Book

Postby KhakiBlueSocks » Sun Feb 12, 2006 8:32 pm

I got this book on EBay a few months ago, and I must ay, it's really great! It has interviews with the staff, the Iron Chefs (the ORIGINAL Japanese version, not the really crappy, poorly done US version--I swear, can't we do anything right?) , and the stats for all the Iron Chefs up to and including the 21st Century battle with the Flay V. Morimoto.

Anybody else read it, or at least know about the show to ask some questions about it?

Does Chen still have the best overall record of the Iron Chefs?
Also how many Iron Chefs have there been total?
I agree that the American version isn't as good as the original.

Yes! Chen, being the Dean of the group, does have the best record: 64 Wins, 22 Losses and one draw. (Battle Goose Liver/Asparagus -- Challenger Dominique Corby 300th Challenger Battle)

The full list of the Iron Chefs, in order from oldest to newest includes:

Iron Chef French I - Yutaka Ishinabe
Iron Chef Japanese I - Rokusaburo Michiba
Iron Chef Chinese - Chen Kenichi
Iron Chef French II - Hiroyuki Sakai
Iron Chef Japnese II - Koumei Nakamura
Iron Chef Italian - Masahiko Kobe
Iron Chef Japanese III - Masaharu Morimoto

Here's something funny: Dr. Yukio Hattori ("Doc") challenged the Iron Chefs twice during the show's earlier runs--he made a deal with Kaga that if he won, he would become an Iron Chef; assuming his place on the podium with the others holding a bright red apple. Sadly, he lost both battles...ah well!

I'm actually in the library, so I had to look up Chen's record--I can be more exact when I get home and have the book in my hands!

Yeah, Alton is the coolest cat around...but I miss Fukui-san! Iron Chef just isn't Iron Chef for me without hearing:

"Fukui-San!"

"Go, big fella!"

Or...

"That's it! The cooking's done! The Homard Lobster battle is OVA!!!!!"

Yeah and I miss them having the celebs of the night sitting in and commenting.
I think my favorite battle was the one where they had the Buddhist monk and his two assistants said that if he lost they'd join the monastery!

What battle was that? I never saw that one!

For me, one of my favorite battles was the Peach battle when the Challenger and Iron Chef Sakai went without assistants..that challenger had a really bad run of luck.

I forget which one it was. They had the final battle yesterday night. It was a bit sad knowing it was the last official one that they aired, though it was nice to see Morimoto winning it.btw:Morimoto has his own website.

Ah yes...battle Sea Bass--watching it as we speak on tape. I loved the ending of that episode--Kaga is so cool! He smashes a glass of wine in his hand, and still manages to clean it up!

Of course, he also breaks another glass in the same hand after he finishes cleaning...

I made a thread in the "Entertainment" section a few minutes ago!
