Photoshop Thread

Everyone post their photoshop questions here! Hopefully someone here will know the solution. (Well ok so maybe the only reason I am doing this is because this forum is empty, but so what? :P ;) )

:Edit:
Well I think Volt is right that this would be a good place to link to Photoshop tutorials. Normally I would just add a new post on the bottom, but since I have the first post in the thread I might as well take advantage of it. ;) So ok I am just going to dump the urls in here and they are to gereral tutorial sites so they all have a variety of stuff they teach. Please if someone notices a like is broken let me know so I can delete it.

*Whew* I had more tutorial links then I thought. That last link is probably the best place to go to find out how to make cool backgrounds. Humm... now I feel like I just gave away my secrets to sucess. Oh well!

Something I'm going to move to this thread, as soon as I find it, was a link to a post Gypsy had up about drawing proper non-filled circles in Photoshop. (I'm a starving resident and only own Photoshop 7, not CS.)

I only own Photoshop 5.0. How do you well, color pictures and make it all cool and stuff? Inkhana tried explaining it to me, and I did try to follow along but...

I'm not really sure what you are asking. Coloring pictures usually = tracing the picture, at least with my experience. Which takes a lonnnng lonnng time. :( There should be something in one of those links I just posted that explains how to do what you are looking for. Good Luck! ;)

My only experience with coloring pics....

1) sampling colors from an existing piece of art
2) manually airbrushing the colors on a layer under the outlines
2) using layers of the same color to make shades

Does this make sense?

Alright, I've attached a colored PSD image (I shrunk it to ~ 600 kb, the original was like 8 Mb 0.o). Open it and have a look at the layers I did. That should help you understand better. ;)

Hair: I did a gradient on the shiny part of the hair (green and white). Then, I blended in the darker shade on another layer.
Skin: The skin color was a result of taking 3 skin shade colors from another pic and painstakingly blending them together. I have 3 layers for skin.
Clothing: Same thing as skin but only two shades of blue color

Everyone, please criticize my methods. I always need to improve. There has got to be a better and quicker to do this. *psychoann* *inkhana*?

Okay a year ago I was playing around with Photoshop trying to come up with a way to color in inked scans of my artwork. Online everyone kept talking about seperating the inked outline and then coloring under it. Which is a lot more time consuming. So When asked them why no-one used the magic wand and just filled it in. Artists said that you'd get white specks.

hehe Well, I do use the magic wand tool when I color cell-styled artworks, it's very quick. What white specks? 0.o I don't get em. Anyway, what I do is make a duplicate of the background outline (always save one backup background outline!) and work on that layer. Click on the area you wanna color with the magic wand and fill. Is that what you do too? ^^ I still color under the inked outline if it requires more gradients and blends. Either ways, if these tips help everyone, that's great!

There are some really good tutorials concerning CG coloring at http://daydreamgraphics.com. I'm not sure if you have to be a member now to view them, though. ^^;

Does anyone have the Photoshop training videos? For how much they cost, they BETTER be worth it (just like Pimsleur Langauge training Audio CD's)

i learned everything i ever know about working with photoshop in inking and coloring digitally cel-style here: http://wynd.teamanime2k.org/wynd_tutorials.htm

very good place. i'm not extraordinarily good in inking/coloring digitally in cel-style but i think i'm quite able to pull off a pretty decent work or two using photoshop, thanks to the guy who made the tutorials in that site.

under ANIME are tutorials for: Hands, Eyes and Ears, Stick Figure Poses, Digital Cel Coloring, Digital Tone Techniques, Advanced Digital Tone Techniques, Backgrounds - Photos to Lineart.

under PHOTOSHOP: Levels, Layers, Layer Sets, Drop Shadows, Digital Inking, Word Bubbles, Energy Beams, Lightsabers, Katana.

Well ok, I guess this can be a "ask MyrrhLynn" thread, or it can be a general Photoshop question thread. I don't really care. I'm not to be posting any tutorials I made because frankly, I don't know what I would post. ;)

But if someone goes to my site and wants to know how I got a certain effect, etc. on one of my graphics feel free to say something here and I will try my best to remember what I did and then explain it. :)
