Yggdrasil Adventure

Story
You have traveled from far away to challange the labyrinth of Yggdrasil for no other reason than riches and fame. The labyrinth of Yggdrasil should not be taken lightly though, as there are few guilds to have gotten past the first statrum because of the fearsome monsters. Knowing this, you have decided to join a guild and have put your name and class up on the registry board.

A few rules first:

- In this thread you must post at least once a week if you are going to be apart of this or else your character will die or turn into a NPC (Note: If you can't make the post for the week, just contact me via PM so then your character isn't removed).
- Since this RP is modeled after Etrian Odyssey, you need to use the classes from here, here, or here.
- You have full control over events in this RP (for example, you can make my character talk to yours, this in turn allows the RP to progress faster and not become stagnant.) However, you cannot leave the location or floor that we are on; I will be doing that throughout the week. You can move the group throughout the town though.
- You can't have more than one character.
- You can post whenever you want and as many times as you want, as long as you were not the last one to post.

Places to visit in town

- Inn
- Shop
- Explorers Guild (Recieve quests and hire guild members here)
- Any other place you can think of

I'm thinking about joining this, though I would like to know when you plan on starting. This may have some influence on whether or not I can.

Well, I was planning on starting the Monday after we get 4 people (including me). Also, you can always join after we start, as thats what the Explorers Guild is for. You would just submit your application, and I would just create an event where we would just come and recruit you into the guild.

A warm autumn breeze fills the town in the early morning. Our explorers are up already waiting in front of the Explorer's Guild to get checked in and registered to a guild. Unfortuanatly our exploers, Mathis, Joanna, and James, have been sitting at the back of the line for a while now just making ideal chitchat with those around them.

A loud voice came from inside the Explorer's Guild: "Ten more!"
Right after the voice, a group of five adventures opened the door chatting with each other, with one of them holding a signed document in hand.
"Looks like that just leaves the three of us then. Hopefully it will be our turn soon." Mathis said.
"I'm fine as long as I don't get thrown into some farmers guild." exclaimed James.
"Guess there's only one way to see, look here comes someone now." Joanna pointed out.

Just then a group of 7 guild members came out this time, except no one was holding any signed documents clearly showing that this wasn't a new guild. While looking closer, two of the people that had been in line in front of them were chatting away with the veteran members of the guild.

While the Mathis, Joanna, and James were staring at the guild, being quite envious that they weren't in a guild yet, a loud voice yet again came from the inside of the Explorer's Guild: "Ten more!"

"Looks like its finally our turn, lets go in." Joanna said.

Inside the Explorer's Guild there were dozens of people sitting at tables that seemed to already belong to some guild. As Mathis, Joanna, and James looked around there were a couple of glares from each of the tables, then they just went back to their business.

"Well, I said ten didn't I?" exclaimed a man who looked to be in his mid forties with dark brown hair that probably hasn't been shaven for a good week. Even so, his demeaner clearly displayed that he was the guild master.
"Where's the rest of them?"
"Looks like we are it, there wasn't anyone behind us." James told the guild master.
"Hmm... come back later then, the folks here don't like the looks of you." the guild master said with an uninterested face.
"Well, couldn't we make our own gulid then?" Mathis protested.
"Guess you could, but if you go into the labrynith with only the three of you... don't go saying I didn't warn you." With that the guild master handed them a signed sheet of paper with his signature on that was proof that they had made a new guild. " Just need you to write a name on here and you will be all set to go."
With that, Joanna took the sheet of paper, scribbled something on the line, and showed it to the guild master.
"Hmm... Athrea's Vengeance you say... I like it!" proclaimed the guild master. "Guess you three are all set then."

OOC- hope I'm doing this right...here goes nothing.

Mathis couldn't quite believe how well things turned out. They were in a guild, and it was their very own guild. True it wasn't very well-known or anything yet, but it was a grand start, to his mind.
"Let me check out the shop first," he said to the others. "I want to load up first."
"Alright, but be quick about it," James responded. Mathis nodded and hurried off.
The shop was a bustling place, filled with customers and interesting sales. What Mathis wanted now was some herbs of healing, and maybe some good travel rations. Of course, he didn't have much in the way of money yet, but he would at least be able to buy a little.
He just hadn't expected how little.
"Prices are rising," the man at the counter said in a bored tone. "Expenses, you know. Wagoners went on strike, so it'll be a while."
Grumbling, Mathis paid the 50G, leaving him with only 20G. Considering the vial of herbs for poisoning and rope he'd bought, it should have just been 20. Oh well, he'd get some more cash soon and hope the shop lowered prices soon.
Still grumbling about it, he wandered around town till he located the others.

OOC- feels weird....how'd I do?

Mathis came across Joanna at a blacksmith's shop - she stood just outside its awning, watching intently as the smith run one edge of her spear across his whetstone, and then working along the other edge, its blade gaining an orange shine in the light of his forge. The blacksmith finished with a wipe of his cloth, and with an admiring glance, handed it back to Joanna. She dropped a handful of coins on the counter, and without looking up from her spear, she addressed Mathis. "You took your time. Did you get everything you needed?"

"Almost, I didn't find any enchanters who would do my blades for cheap."

"Aah, you don't need any of those doddering fools with their heads in the aether saying they made you your fortune. I would rather do it on my own strength - I mean, our own strength."

"Of course..." Mathis' eyes drifted around the street they were in - shops, a cart full of fruit and its overenthusiastic vendor, the occasional adventurer passing through...

Finally, he spotted James rounding the corner with a backpack full of dungeoneering supplies and a grin on his face. "Hey! Are we ready to ship out yet, or what? Let's get to spelunking!" James yelled, waving his hand madly. With a glance to Joanna, the two of them wandered down the street back towards the front gate. And although Joanna didn't want to show any of it, she was just as excited as James - she'd made an attempt or two to go under before, but things hadn't worked out quite the way she had expected. But this time... This time, she had this feeling about it. Granted, they weren't much of a party, but there wasn't a mage in the bunch to ruin things this time around. Nothing but good, honest, hitting things with sharp objects. She even waved a couple times to people on the street, trying to make James seem less awkward in comparison.

They were out of the gate in just a few moments, and the path to the labyrinth lay before them, to a land full of monsters and even more full of treasure free for the taking. They were really going to do this, Joanne thought, pulling herself upright a little more.

OOC: You did fine Wolfsong. Also, in case either of you are wondering, I got the monsters names here.

Statrum 1 - Floor 1

Image

Guild Athrea's Vengeance set into the labyrinth. Awestruck by the natural beauty of the forest, they continued onward.

"Don't let your guard down. I hear a lot of guilds can't even get past the first floor, and that is usually with five people instead of three." James pointed out while being weary of enemies that could leap out of the bushes.
"Looks like the path splits here. Which way do you want to go?" Mathis looked down both long hallways that seemed to have no ending.
"This one looks..." A piercing howl echoes throughout the first floor which cuts Joanna off mid sentence.
"W-well... what do you suppose that was?" Mathis said terrified.
"The owner at the item shop that I visited told me that a Gashtor has ascended a few floors onto the first floor, and it seems that no one has slain it yet." James looked around confirming that the sound didn't come from nearby.
"It sounds like it came from further in, so we'll probably be safe in this spot." Joanna said to reassure Mathis.
"We might need to defeat it to move onward though, let's make sure we are ready before we go farther in." James grinned as he was eagerly awaiting this new challenge.

With that, the guild went farther down the right corridor, piercing and slashing Woodflys and Moles as they went.

OOC - funny, never thought Mathis a chicken...still, I suppose someone in the party has to be XD  Also, I'm uncertain which monster list we're using presently, so I'm going with the first one.

The trio proceeded through the labyrinth cautiously. Mathis was sweating, thoughts about dying suddenly intruding on his thoughts.
James suddenly paused, and Mathis froze like he'd been shot. Another howl carried across the forest, and Mathis gripped his weapon fearfully. "That one sounded closer," he breathed.
"We'll take whatever comes," Joanne said grimly.
"Stick together," James ordered, taking the lead. "We can do it if we work together."
Mathis had his doubts about this, but he followed obediently, if not hopefully.

"There's the stairs!" Mathis said ecstatically while running towards them.
"Not so fast Mathis, we need to..." James was cut off by the Gashtor that now stood in between Mathis and the rest of the party.
The Gashtor stood a good fifteen feet tall with sharp teeth and claws.
James' drive blade began glowing. "Alright, Mathis, Joanna, now!"
Even though the trio had only been fighting for one day, the synergy between the three was already great.

Seeing James running towards it, the Gashtor focused its attention on him. The Gashtor brought down its claws onto James, while James was able to land a quick stab attack to the Gashtor's middle. Mathis then ran over to the party while throwing knives that seemed to reduce the Gashtor's visibility. Just then, the Gashtor swung its tail at the party in which Joanna reflected most of the attack with her shield. Despite this, the party was thrown back ten feet. In no condition to carry the battle further, they had no choice but to retreat. The Gashtor's visibility was pretty much gone, being so, it was too disabled to complete the fight quickly. The party took advantage of this and quickly retreated to an earlier explored section of the floor.

"That was freakishly close!" Mathis gasped, double-over trying to catch his breath.
"We'll have to get a lot stronger before we face that again," Joanna said, resolve in her eyes.
James grimaced, feeling new bruises in his joints. That blow that had knocked them back had been really strong; they were lucky to have gotten away as unharmed as they had.
"I guess...we know the new boss of this floor," Mathis said with a weak grin. He was not looking forward to this. He straightened, sighing. "So...what do we do? If we want to advance further, we'll have to defeat that thing."
"If we can reduce its visibility like we did before," Joanna said. "That would be an edge."
"Its attacks are powerful though," James reminded them. "Before we can successfully take it out, we have to come up with a way to either evade its attacks or build up the defense power and armor to withstand it."
"That's a problem," Mathis sighed.

OOC: I changed one of the rules now. "However, you cannot leave the location or floor that we are on; I will be doing that throughout the week. You can move the group throughout the town though." This rule no longer applies, you can move the party however you want now.

James pulled out three Medicas from his bag and gave one to Mathis and Joanna.
"Ah, that feels much better!" Joanna exclaimed.
"Now we should be in shape to finish that monster off." Mathis said.
"If we charge in recklessly though, we probably won't have any more success than last time. That's why I've come up with a plan." James smirked at the thought of fighting such a formidable foe.

The threesome had made it to James' estimated location on where the Gashtor would show up next.
"Be on alert, I wouldn't be surprised if it has healed itself by now." James told the rest of the group.
Just when they turned the hallway, they saw the Gashtor waiting at the end of the hallway, almost as it had been waiting for them. Something seemed a bit off though, as the group looked closer, there was another Gashtor along with it!
"Th-There's two of them!" Mathis screamed.
"No change in strategy, except you might need to be ready to dodge a few blows Joanna." James said coldly.
"Alright, that shouldn't be a problem." Joanna replied.

The group then rushed in with James and Mathis at the lead with Joanna behind them.
Quite an odd formation considering their party, but they knew what they were doing.
The Gashtors decided to charge at the party to end the fight quickly.
Mathis was shaking all over as he had to be the first to attack.
Just then Mathis came to his senses when James screamed "Mathis, now!"
Mathis took the jar he had been carrying, and threw it at the Gashtors.
The jar broke open and slowed down both the Gashtors from paralysis.
James took the opportunity and stabbed one of the Gashtors through the middle.
Knowing full well that he would be hit, he stepped back to avoid the claws that came down.
Mathis was now behind the Gashtor that took the hit with his knife glowing blue. (After doing some research, the team learned that ice was a major weakness to Gashtor, and decided that Mathis make the final blow since he was the only one that could use any ice attacks.)
Mathis screamed "Alright, we got you now!"
With the blow from Mathis' knife, the first Gashtor fell to the ground.
James had already retreated to fight the other Gashtor with Joanna who had dodged most of the Gashtors hits with her shield since they weren't as powerful as before because of the paralysis potion.
"James, Mathis, hold off the Gashtor for a few seconds" Joanna shouted.
"That's easy for you to say." Mathis said.
With that, a few blows were exchanged from each side.
Joanna's spear started glowing yellow, and she started running towards the Gashtor.
"Alright, out of the way you two, this ones mine." Joanna said just before she jumped in the air.
She then sunk her spear into the Gashtor before it could claw her.
The second Gashtor then fell to the floor with a loud sound that echoed throughout the first floor of the labyrinth.
"Looks like we did it." Mathis said with a smile.
"That we did." James replied.
"Alright, onward to the next floor!" Joanna said ecstatically.
