At the Library

Hey everyone,

It's been quite a while. I just got off of a computer fast and I don't know if I got something out of it, but we'll see. Anyways, I wanted to share some good~ information for those who may be tight on a budget for entertainment. As we all are, we are anime/manga fans, but did you know that many libraries now have graphic novels you can read and DVDs you can watch for FREE?! If you need to take a break from Netflix or Hastings, you can go to the local library. They may have that anime or manga you're looking for. If they don't, well, you go to your local librarian about an anime or manga you want to watch and they can search for it on a special library website that can get it out of town or state and send it straight on over to the library you want to pick it up. They will call you when it's here. One example: someone recommended me the series, Tsubasa. Within 2 weeks, it was ready for pick-up. Kudos to the great recommendation because I loved~ the series and I'm hoping to pick up the second season in the future. Another is the Sailor Moon series, which I plan to read all 12 by the end of March. So, yes, go to your local library to see because you never know what you will find. They have all sorts of things to watch and read. Don't have a library card, no problem. Library cards are usually free if you're new to the system.

I hope this becomes more widespread so that people can scream about lazy millennials watching Japanese porno cartoons with MAH TAX DOLLARS.

Unless you live just one mile outside the city limits like me and have to pay 50 bucks annually to maintain my access to knowledge and more importantly, glorious books.
Libraries are great places to find new things to read and watch. Depending on the area, some libraries have larger selections of anime/manga than others. So, if you can take advantage of things like inter-library loans and such, you can benefit a lot from the libraries in your area.

Actually, being a seasoned library veteran myself, the best library system I've ever used was through my university, where I could order books/DVDs/etc. from any other school library in the nation (and sometimes internationally!). The possibilities are endless at that point! You can even find Japanese light novels (in Japanese!) and weird books that only have like, three copies in libraries anywhere.

All that being said, we live in trying times of instantaneous satisfaction is expected, libraries have it tough in the market where instant streaming online is becoming very much a normal part of life. Now, for movies and most TV shows, you have to pay for services like Netflix, but a lot of stuff on Hulu doesn't require a Hulu+ account, and then for anime you have Funimation (which is the same situation as Hulu), and then of course, Crunchyroll (there is subscription available, for it's main benefit is for already airing series. The rest of the anime you can watch for free no problem).

But for us avid manga readers, libraries still remain one of the best options, especially with the growing popularity of the literary medium.

The library is my favorite place to go, for multiple reasons.

1. Limited home internet.
2. I read-and always have read-A TON. Novels, graphic novels, manga, the works.
3. It's fun. I love searching for books, going onliine, talking with the librarians, etc. It's just a great place for me. My dad used to tease me about how I'd probably be a librarian when I grow up. The funny part is how tempting it sounded.

Go for it. I have a friend who's trying to be a librarian. She said she has to grow her hair out more though so she can put it up in a bun and then dramatically let it down to increase the inherent hotness of being a librarian.

I've been a fan of anime/manga for years and the library has given me access to so much! I check manga out at my library all the time. I've never checked out a DVD with them though. I really should see if they have any shows I'd like to watch on DVD.

The library is awesome! I get alot of my movies and manga there. My college library has a lot of the Studio Ghibil movies, so that always makes me really happy. :)

My local library is where I get my manga to read. I've been reading through Black Butler, Pandora Hearts, and Fullmetal Alchemist. Picking up all the volumes one at a time from the library. They have anime too, but I haven't gotten much of that from the library as of yet. It's a great suggestion, especially for those with limited funds.

My library HAD almost every Pandora Hearts book(which is actually just PandoraHearts, but no one writes it like that...) but those have vanished now...

Disappearing manga! Sounds like a mystery...I think we need a detective on the case :)
