Mysterious characters

I was looking at an old Wikipedia file about Proto Man from the Mega Man series and it said that he was an example of the "mysterious anime character archetype". Can you guys name any other mysterious characters from not just anime but from other media.
Here are some examples that I thought of that hopefully match this type of character...
Racer X (Speed Racer)- Probably the grandfather to this archetype:)
Chazz Princeton (Yugioh GX manga)- Chazz acts alot more serious in the manga version than the anime.
Solomon (Sym-Bionic Titan)
Knight (Duel Masters)
Phantom Knight (D.I.C.E.)
Shadow the Hedgehog (Sonic)
Chef John (Fighting Foodons)
Phantom Renegade (Medabots)- although from what I have heard he sometimes acts a little clumsy.
Le Bled (Steam Detectives)
Red X (Teen Titans)
