You mean Xeno's been redefining Christianity to suit his political and social ambitions, and picking pieces out of it to construct a revisionist national identity for that purpose? Or did you mean to say that Xeno's planning on rounding us up for the camps?

Either way...just keep doing your thing, Rocky.

I, personally, have no issue with Christians in general. I do have issues with some individual Christians for a variety of reasons, but that is hardly the same as whatever it is you're trying to say. Just keep telling yourself whatever you need to Rocky.

No he wasn't. I want you to reread history and find me some actual, solid proof he was a Christian.

I am not going to argue over this, especially on this site. That's not the point of this thread, this is just a bunch of jokes with me as the brunt of it, which I'm enjoying. But since you asked:

Adolf Hitler was raised by an anti-clerical, skeptic father and a devout Catholic mother. Baptized as an infant, confirmed at the age of fifteen, he ceased attending Mass and participating in the sacraments in later life.[1] In adulthood, he became disdainful of Christianity, but in power was prepared to delay clashes with the churches out of political considerations.[2] Hitler's architect Albert Speer believed he had "no real attachment" to Catholicism, but that he had never formally left the Church. Unlike his comrade Joseph Goebbels, Hitler was not excommunicated[3] prior to his suicide. The biographer John Toland noted Hitler's anticlericalism, but considered him still in "good standing" with the Church by 1941, while historians such as Ian Kershaw, Joachim Fest and Alan Bullock agree that Hitler was anti-Christian - a view evidenced by sources such as the Goebbels Diaries, the memoirs of Speer, and the transcripts edited by Martin Bormann contained within Hitler's Table Talk.[4] Goebbels wrote in 1941 that Hitler "hates Christianity, because it has crippled all that is noble in humanity."[5] Many historians have come to the conclusion that Hitler's long term aim was the eradication of Christianity in Germany,[6] while others maintain that there is insufficient evidence for such a plan.[7]

Whether he fits your definition of what a Christian should be or not, he was never excommunicated from the church.

Yeah, sorry. I get irked when stuff like this comes up. But yeah, this ain't the place for discussing it. My apologies, I'll take my griefs to another thread.

Don't worry, Wolfsong, I have your answer. You dare to bring up Hitler, Xeno? Well, I have some quotes for you that shall reveal the chinks in your armor!
“The best thing is to let Christianity die a natural death.” (Heresy: Ten Lies They Spread About Christianity by Michael Coren, pg 108)
“Christianity is an invention of sick brains.” (ibid, pg 110)
In 1932 before Hitler got into power, 65% of German youth went to Catholic schools. In 1937, it was 3%. Catholic youth groups were forbidden to compete in sports. Hitler set up a separate educational structure. He also said:

The most dangerous activity of countless Catholic clergy is the way in which they ‘mope about’, spreading despondency. Favorite topics are the “dangers of a new time”, “the present emergency”, “the gloomy future”. Prophecies are made about the speedy downfall of National Socialism or at the very least mention is made of the transience of all political phenomena, compared with the Catholic Church which will outlive them all. National Socialist achievements and successes are passed over in silence. … There is thus a deliberated undermining of the very basis of the National Socialist program of reconstruction, the people’s trust in leadership of the state.--quoted from this link
Hitler was a politician. If the climate favored Christianity, he used it. If it didn't he refuted it.

Taking it upon myself to be the judge of this argument, I've noticed that you're all answering different questions, which I will try to summarize and answer based on what's been provided.

Was Hitler a Christian at some point in his life? That much is undeniable.

At the end of his life, was he in good standing with the Roman Catholic Church? Again, yes. It wasn't until fifty years later that Pope John Paul II apologized for their role in the rise of European fascism (the Catholics' part in it was mostly confined to Italy) and their failure to denounce it. However, like Xeno said, several high-ranking Nazis were excommunicated in their lifetime, so why not Hitler?

Did Hitler himself disclaim his Christianity? Not openly, as it would weaken his political position and standing among the citizens of Germany, among which he was still very popular. Imagine what would happen if a politician in the US did the same thing - in nearly all situations, this would probably result in the end of their political career. Which is why he made several attempts to redirect Christianity to be more in favor of the state he was building: to retain their favor and to use it to justify his ends in the eyes of his public. But as Rocky posted, in his private correspondence, he was much more disdainful of Christianity - whether he was talking about Christianity in general, or how it was being practiced at the time (the last quote suggests the latter, seemingly more anti-clerical than anti-Christian), that seems less settled. Whatever the case, his beliefs on Christianity in public seem to be more about political expediency and self-exaltation than a genuine belief in its principles.

Lastly, if we define a Christian as being a follower of the teachings of Jesus Christ, any cursory analysis of both those teachings and Hitler's actions will reveal the huge gap between them no matter how either of those might be defined. This is what has led to people saying that he was not a Christian; nevertheless, he did not openly denounce it. For my fellow Christians, I would point to Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares - he came in to the church claiming to be a follower of Jesus, but his actions proved the opposite.

Look, can we get back to telling Xeno how great he is? I have a Battle of Stalingrad reenactment I need to get to.

I'm pretty sure Ante was the one who brought up Hitler in the first place. I went along for the joke, and you're the one that turned things into whatever this thread is now. Good job Rocky, you turned a good off thread into a debate on if Hitler was a real Christian or not. Hope you're happy with the massive derail of a joke thread.

I get that you don't like me because of ~reasons~ Rocky. So much you feel the need to directly lash out at me. I'm not sure if it's because I'm not a Christian and you see it as an affront or if it's just because I have a habit of posting sarcastic crap in threads while not liking the things you do. Regardless what it is, try to chill the heck out man. You're literally angry at some other guy who posts on an Internet forum. Nothing I do here has any real impact or effect on you unless you want it to.

For the sake of general decency, and to ensure things don't get even more out of hand in this thread, I think it's time we shut this down.

Edit: and just for the record, I do not have any kind of Asian person in my armor.

Considering I asked the question, you can't entirely blame it on Rocky. I'm sorry for starting a fight in here.

I started this thread because I made a dumb joke and brought up Hitler in another dumb joke.
And then you started trying to debate in a Goof Off thread because apparently you didn't get that the whole thing is just a really dumb joke.
