Riddle Masters

Hey, i don't know if this has been done already, but i'd like to start a riddle competition.

The rules are simple. Write or find a riddle, the clues to the solution should be in the riddle itself, but can also allude to common knowledge sources (scientific laws, the Bible, famous quotes, whatever.) Only one riddle at a time. The person who solves the riddle gets to post the next one. If the person who solved the last riddle does not wish to post a new one, say so, so someone else can have a chance. The person who posted the riddle does not have to give hints, but may, and hints like "you're close" or "i would have accepted x if y" are acceptable, and it is polite to let people know if their answer was wrong (just be polite about informing them, a simple "no" will suffice). If no one has solved the riddle after a week or more, the poster may give the answer and post a new riddle. Also, please keep the riddles, hints, and answers clean.

Here's my riddle, i expect it shouldn't be too hard:

Resting we are wakeful,
For wakes are for us.
Those who speak our name become breathless,
And breathless are we.
Multiplying, we do not conceive.
Dividing, we unify.
Even after death we may grow.
Eyeless we watch,
And sightless we keep vigil.
We leave naught behind,
For we have gone nowhere.

Fun and all, but Sierra, you're not following the rules. Whoever guesses the riddle gets to post the next one.

Sorry! Then someone post something quick, because I want to try guessing.

OK, here's a classic.
What creature has four legs in the morning, two in the afternoon, and three in the evening?
For bonus points, tell me where I got this one.

A human. A baby crawls on all fours, an adult walks on two, and an elder in the waning years uses a cane.

I don't know where you got it, but I have heard it before.

Ah yes, I do remember that now. Ok, sorry I was looking for my riddle, here it is:

A man lives on the twelfth floor of an apartment building. Every morning he takes the elevator down to the lobby and leaves the building. In the evening, he gets into the elevator, and, if there is someone else in the elevator -- or if it was raining that day -- he goes back to his floor directly. However, if there is nobody else in the elevator and it hasn't rained, he goes to the tenth floor and walks up two flights of stairs to his room.

I know this one. The man is short, so he can't reach the button that takes him to his floor. If someone else is in the elevator, he asks them to press it. If it was raining, he can reach the button with his umbrella. Otherwise he has to choose a lower floor button and walk to his actual floor. I'd done this one before.

I'll give you another. A couple celebrate their 25th birthdays with their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. How?
