Wait... You think rephrasing the question is a good idea, or you think that there sould be more than one image for each anime?

Watch those dangling modifiers.

(You know. Modifiers that don't modify the correct subject? As in, "Having many dangerous curves, she drove carefully down the mountain road.")

Yes.

In that case, no.

I love that line... Also, the "Spell Chequer" poem I got in my English class... It's great.

Definately don't want yuri... Kei is ok, though.

I'm still thinking it would be WAY to, um, interesting to try and come up with the warning icons. For example, what would the icon for nudity look like? How could we do this tastefully?

The current thinking is this. We have number ratings (1-10) for violence, nudity etc. I'm thinking a collumn for each that just lists the number would be OK. So the table that lists all the anime would have a collumn called V (violence) and each row would have a number, 1-10 for how much V it had. We could have a legend at the bottom that would make it easy to see at a glance what is there.

For now, we are waiting on population of the database by the admins. Once that is complete, we will 'beta' run it to see what everyone thinks. Then we'll clean it up, put a nice face on it and link it live.

Well ... lots of "censored" bubbles might work. :)

I like the way the system is now, actually. Don't fix what isn't baroque...er, broke. Eh heh...

I've heard that joke somewhere before.

I think it's classical or something.

*everyone: groan!*

Between the two of us, this place sure is punny!

*ducks tomatoes flying from general CAA direction*
Shoo! I saw that one!

We're just victoms here, you know...

*heavily exagerated sigh*

BTW: 50 hits on the reviews DB. Is someone gonna fill that in? Is that what those hits are?

Yah, um when I said Icons, I really just meant embossed letters or something like that.

For whatever it's worth, I've reviewed several anime titles for other clubs/websites, and I think I can dredge up the review text and modify it to fit this database format.

Also, being someone who has seen anime since most people weren't born around here, I would like to make myself handy in providing some of the review content, if you wouldn't mind.

If you'd like a taste of my review style, check out this post I just made a little while back, in the General forum:

http://www.christiananime.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1846

Let me know what you think. In the meantime, I'll check out this reviews website and see what's up with it. I've always wanted an outlet for my anime knowledge, and I hope this place is the one for me. ;2)

One thing that I noticed is the age group phrasing "...and under". Shouldn't that really read "...and up"?

For example, Cowboy Bebop is suggested for ages "15 and under". Isn't that a little ambiguous?

Just my 3 yen...

Yeah, I agree. I'm think going to change that. I was shooting for the searching function to be "I'm looking for anime suitable for ages ___ and down." Not the other part. What I'm really waiting for is a list of 'project specs' from the mods/admins to tell me what I need to change so that they will begin loading the database with stuff. As for non-admins submitting reviews, my guess is you'll have to get their approval first. Maybe post a review in the anime reviews area, and they can decide if they want to copy it into the database. (But I'm just the programmer, you know? :) )

OK. I think I've figured out a comprimise for the age area. When age details are entered, they are entered as suitable for ages ____ and up. When they are viewed, they are viewed as ages ____ and up. When they are SEARCHED, you can choose to search for ages ___ and up OR ages ___ and down. This should satisfy everyone.

Oh, and I added age 'any' to the list. If you search on any, it superscedes the 'up' and the 'down' options.

I just did a search on google for 'flactem' and this thread made the top 10 results. It was lower than a pig of the same name in germany somewhere... Go figure...

Heh. Acctually, it's my last name backwards... Making the post in 'links' show my name up correctly... That's bizarre... Anyway, thanks for the avitar comments!

PS: I'd love help on the DB, but I think it's done already. Sorry!

- UPDATE: Admin area -

OK. Since it looks like this is going to get a little more attention, I've spruced it up a bit. New stuff:

1. The search form now works the same on all pages it appears on.
2. Entering data for the 'Graphic URL' now actually causes a graphic to appear. Graphics should be 150 pixels high for best results. (IE: I'm gonna FORCE it, so you better make yours match or it'll be messy).
3. Entering data for the related forum will now cause a hyperlink to appear, letting the user jump directly to the forum.

Now that we have some functionallity, what do we want to do as the next step? Any ideas for beautification, etc? DJ - When do we get the new look?

As far as new looks and things go, I don't plan to do anything at all until the final release of vB comes out roughly decembertime.

After this happens I plan on hacking this site like crazy and adding loads of extra functionality including a portal system w/ reviews appearing somewhere on the front page, gallery system, etc. This will all be integrated into the site.

In order to get the reviews to appear on the portal page, we'll need to have the database on the caa server. I'm sure it will fit after a few hackings and to be honest i don't see the point of having it on another server, it just seems to make things more complicated.

I'm guessing db population should be at the top of the agenda at the moment anyway. Also if you're up for it, I quite fancy trying to set up the reviews db on the caa server now... just to test things out :)

I'd be glad to help populate the review data... just need to have a format to follow. Where can I get the latest one?

If you really want to, we can try to move it to the server. The only reason I can see for keeping it on the offsite server is quick access to make changes while we are working out the bugs. Have you figured out how to create extra databases, etc on the main server? Hmm... Actually, PM or AIM me on that one.

DanekJovax: I'm not sure we HAVE a latest one yet  !
For authentication purposes, we need a way to make sure only 'official' reviews end up in the database. My recommendation:
1. Post a 'sticky thread' in the reviews forum where we keep a copy of the 'latest format' for submitting reviews.
2. Any user can post (using that format) to that forum (or PM the review to a mod).
3. If the mod agrees with it, they can stick it in the database.

This seems like it would be the most streamlined process. Any mods wanna sign off on it?
