Looking For A Good Read

Postby AdriTan » Fri Apr 17, 2015 10:27 pm

Can someone please suggest a fun clean manga to read? I try looking around but there's so much Manga that has half or totally naked people and I am just not into that stuff. I just don't want my Manga to feel like a porn book ya know? It's been a while since I have talked with people who also enjoyed manga and I miss it. It can have magic and whatever. Just not super gross pictures that are mega gory or not appropriate.

Maybe a mod can merge this with the manga recommendations thread?

Yotsuba&! (slice of life, humor) comes to mind. I've only read a chapter or two, but it tends to be highly recommended by people here as a good clean manga. It's about a single dad raising his daughter.

If by "half-naked" you mean skimpy outfits, probably more shonen titles have skimpy outfits than shojo, so if you don't mind slice-of-life romance, then try Love so Life (romance plus some cute little kids), Lovely Complex (hilarious romcom), High School Debut (romcom), or Taiyou no Ie (romance). Or for fantasy romance, Akagami no Shirayuki Hime (woman wants to become a palace pharmacist), Ayakashi Hisen (ghost-buster style stuff with a super-nice male lead), Detarame Mousouryoku Opera (woman pulled into a fantasy world by a prince), and Ten no Ryuu Chi no Sakura (girl meets dragon). Also anything written by Midirokawa Yuki: Ayakashi Hisen (supernatural scool life romance), Atsui Hibi (short stories sometimes with a supernatural slant), Hotarubi no Mori e (more short stories), Hiiro no Isu (political fantasy romance, a personal favorite of mine), and Natsume's Book of Friends (supernatural story with a male lead, not particularly romance-focused).

Come to think of it, with shonen you might have more luck with more realistic genres like sports manga. For example, Cross Game (baseball) and Yowamushi Pedal (cycling) are both very clean. Cross Game has maybe one or two shots of a woman in her underwear (changing clothes) in all ten volumes, and that's it.
Let others believe in the God who brings men to trial and judges them. I shall cling to the God who resurrects the dead.

you also might want to look into Silent voice (just finished REALLY GOOD) Ruroni kenshin has is pretty good(these are some of the better shonen titles).
I hope you don't mind me barging in like this. In spite of the profession I've chosen, I've never actually made a confession before. It's these times we live in. I did what it took to protect the children at any cost. That's how I always justified my actions. I took many people's lives, all that time believing there was no other way. My sins are so heavy. Too heavy. Too heavy to ever atone for. And yet, somehow I feel happy, at peace with myself today. It really can be done. Once you stop to think about it, there are plenty of ways to save everyone. Why didn't I ever listen to him? Why didn't I see that before it was too late? -Nicholas D. Wolfwood (Priest)

My Neighbor Seki-kun is great fun, and I'm seconding Yotsuba&!, my younger sister has the first 12 volumes and loves them. I'm also enjoying Story of Saiunkoku so far, I've got the first 4 volumes and it's been both entertaining, and a good story, I would recommend at least having a quick look at it.

"Grave Dig" to put a blip in for Non Non Byori's manga. It's just recently being translated officially. Also Barakamon, which is about a calligrapher who moves to an island. Fun contrast between 'city' and 'country'.
