Manga suggestions...

Postby onyxmoon21 » Fri Feb 02, 2007 3:23 pm

I know there's got to be lots of threads out there similiar to this one, but here goes...

My darling younger brother is getting into manga :) and I'd appreciate some suggestions, if you have them... here are somethings he likes and doesn't like:
1. he loves sports books. I gave him the 1st volume of Prince of Tennis [I found it at the library] and he really liked it. [I actually hadn't read it, but I'd heard it was good and clean...] I'm also trying to get my hands on Whistle at the moment...
2. he loves action! [of course!] Blood and gore don't need to be present, but I don't think it'd bother him so long as it was mild.
3. [just for the record] he has no interest in romance! Period!

So, anything you guys have to suggest that's clean and interesting for a preteen boy would be great. Other then Kingdom Hearts, I don't own any manga that would suit him. [well, Wolfs Rain might, but I'm holding off on that one for a while...]

Thanks!

FullMetal Alchemist should suit him, but since it often covers controversial territory, I'd definitely suggest browsing it first before passing it on.

yeah. prince of tennis is good and so is whistle. might i ask how OLD your brother is? anyways, depending on his age, i'd also suggest eyeshield 21 (a football manga). also, you could let him try slam dunk. as for action titles, try one piece.

My brother is a preteen--twelve years old, to be exact.

And thanks guys for the suggestions--however, I think FMA might be a little too mature for him... plus, I feel somewhat uncomfortable with some of the religous content...

umm...eyeshield 21 should be fine for him. there's some swearing and some crude humor but it's not all that bad.

I would say FMA, but a series that seems to meet the quota here would have to be Rurouni Kenshin. Reasons:

1. As far as language, there are probably five swear words in all of the books. Super-clean<3!

2. There's a little romance, but it's sort-of overpowered by all the action.

3. About the action--it's sword-fighting. Does that count as sports? Hm. Anyway, there's rather a lot of blood, but the main character feels guilty about every wound he inflicts. It even makes me feel bad!

4. There are 28 volumes and all of them are already out. No wait!!

Soo...just my opinion. Choose whatever you think is best. :)
