Question for any fellow guitarists

when playing a barre chord can I use more than just the a, a minor, e and e minor shapes example could I use a g shape 0n the second fret to play an A so I wouldn't have to go to the fifth fret like if I needed a quick chord transition back into a E minor or something like that
