KW, Typhoid is a very serious disease. However, in the world of OT, every disease was cured by bed rest.

There is the small matter of antibiotics not being invented yet (nor a suction device to suck river water out of people's lungs, though to be sure that would be possible with OT "Oregon Technology").

I've always wondered, why is inadequate grass supposed to be such a problem? Maybe it's because I never lived in those days.

Ah, those Oregon settlers had it tough, allright. Nowadays, you don't even need a diskette to get to Oregon.

Inadequate grass, you say? I was wondering why the ground was orange.

Journal Entry: May 2, 1848

On our way to Independence Rock, we briefly stopped to take notice of the rather inadequate grass. This may be trouble for our oxen. One of the oxen looked at me with it's large, empty eyes. As my own eyes met it's gaze, time slowed to a standstill, and the moment felt as several days.

If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things."
