Emma: A Victorian Romance (Jump to title)

Review I would recommend this anime to anyone who loves Jane Austen. It is a pure english romance, period. If you don't like that proper, slower kind of relationship, this will bore you. If you do, you're in for a treat.

One of the great things about this series is how appropriate it is. No violence beyond one slap to my recollection. The closest to sexual content is one Indian man having some Indian women lounging around with him (all of them clothed, and nothing inappropriate really suggested), and seeing the outside of a brothel at one point, but no one goes in and besides knowing it was a brothel, there is nothing inappropriate. If there is language, it's very limited. I don't remember any. The Indian man would be the only source of religious question, since i think he has a Buddha statue or something, but it's never talked about.

Basically, it's all very appropiate, which I appreciated greatly. The artwork might not be the most beautiful, but it's very fitting of the characters and place. Emma is a loveable Heroine, and I enjoyed her character greatly. The end is a drop off, but that's why there's an excellent second season that you can also read a review for :)
Emma: A Victorian Romance Second Act (Jump to title)
- Overall: 10

Review I found the second season as enjoyable as the first. The romance is sweet and pure, and some fresh characters bring in a great addition to the series. There are a few more questionable things in the second series, which actually caught me off guard a bit. Nothing severe, just worth noting.

Violence:
Very little. I recall one direct punch (and the receiver certainly deserved it) but nothing else.

Nudity/Sexual Content:
This surprised me, but still had nothing much to write home about. There is one woman new in this series that Emma serves as a handmaid to. I believe there is a bout two instances of seeing this woman naked, though mostly covered with a large blanket thrown over her shoulders. It isn't much, but it's worth noting. Also, there is one scene where Emma and William end up alone in a bedroom, but nothing whatsoever happens beyond a hug. They are very proper British people, after all.

Problematic Themes:
Again, there is no religious issues besides possible mention of eastern religion (if that). There is some drinking of alcohol in this season, but nothing beyond Emma consuming a little under pressure and becoming slightly emotional. One character smokes on occasion, I believe, but beyond that there's nothing.

Overall, the second season is a great end to an adorable story. Once again, not for thrill seekers, but if you like romance, there's certainly something to enjoy. The Second season was actually my favorite of the two, because of the new variety of characters and the overall beauty of the series. Should you so desire to watch it, this series is a treat.
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (Movie) (Jump to title)
- Overall: 8

Review If you have played the games or read a summary of them, this can be a great watch. If you have neither of those experiences to inform you, you won't understand what's going on. Beyond that, I found this movie exceedingly enjoyable. The characters have variety, the plot is interesting, and their is no other word for the animation but BREATHTAKING. It is beyond incredible and I will always think of it as the most impressive I've ever seen. If you like watching characters triumph in incredible battles and their own inner conflict, please enjoy.

Violence
Fighting is rather frequent. It's an action movie, so that's to be expected. No blood, however, just motorcycle chases and sword/gun fighting that's all very impressive.

Nudity/Sexual:
Basically, none. One female character might where clothes that show her belly button, but beyond that there's nothing whatsoever.

Theological:
The film has this idea of a "lifetstream" that surrounds the world which is where people go when they die. It could be taken as a bad religious theme, but it's basically just a fantasy world thing that isn't trying to make a religious statement or anything.

Other Problematic Themes
It should be noted that there is a disease among humanity that's rather central to the plotline of the movie, and many people have sort of brown bruise marks on them as a sign of it. There's one scene in particular where several people are seen looking very ill and throwing up. It isn't detailed enough to really be disturbing though.

Overall, not exactly an award winner for plot or deeper themes, but it's an interesting watch with great action and amazing animation.
Fullmetal Alchemist (Jump to title)

Review Not for children under 14 due to the blood and darker themes.
Above that age range, however, an EXCELLENT series. The themes may be darker at times, but it's one of those series that actually makes you think about deeper things such as the value of human life and whether the means truly justify the end. I've heard the brotherhood series is better, but this series is gold in itself, whether it follows the manga or not. The characters are understandable and realistic, the animation is excellent, and overall a great watch. If you enjoy action with deeper meaning and mystery, this is certainly for you.

Review Violence: Mostly humorous, or just in talk. Taiga is known for her violent nature, so she hits, charges, and punches people, but its never graphic, just funny since she's so small.

Nudity/Sexual Content: Basically just talk. There's a girl with large breasts that acts seductively more then once, but nothing ever happens. Another girl is known has having small breasts and it becomes an issue in one episode. The main guys family has issues (his mom and dad were never married, etc.) and its mentions quite a bit. Basically, just talk, plain and simple. The jokes can get kinda inappropriate at times, but never way overboard. A guy comes out of the shower in one scene, but has a towel. So yeah, brief things like that, but nothing serious. If you don't like that kind of humor and can't over look it, it might not be the series for you, but its pretty clean compared to a lot out there.

Problematic Themes: Mostly just basic exposure to Japanese culture. Maybe some references to Buddhism. Nothing wretched. Other themes that might come into question are things like bars and smoking. The man character's mother works at a bar, so that comes up a great deal, but its nothing bad really, just mentioned at times.

Overall, this show is HILARIOUS, and a cute romance. So, if you can overlook spurts of dirty humor, then you'll enjoy it. I only failed to give it a 10 out of 10 because of that, so I gave it a 9. This is a personal favorite of mine, and I would recommend it to anyone mature enough for it, maybe 15 and over :)
